I think that with the advent if these proboards, suddenlaunch, and invisionfree… forums that people have lost sight of what is truly important in this game, the interactions of people and the imagination that those people use to use to create their own world to play in. Before there were forums that allowed mass hysteria, there was the story. The story was all encompassing. It had a beginning, a middle, and an end. It had characters (yes, that is plural) that worked to flesh out the feelings and lifetimes of each of these neo-pets we have become so embroiled in.
Today, the end does not exist for this supposed role play. People drag on the SAME crap day in, day out. There is no evolution of the story. No final resolution of fighting and letting it drop or epiphany of understanding, and I find that very unfortunate. Any story is supposed to have a “The End” eventually.
The constant insults are fast and easy but they run away from too many individuals who think they are “all that” on a daily basis. I have taken that aspect back for myself. I have not posted on one of those “public newspapers” in over a month and I find it quite liberating. Yes, I realize that it means that I have not supported Sara (rel), or been able to acknowledge Ken’s (Kill’s) posts and declarations to DE, but it has helped me to understand that the story is what really matters.
The advice I would give to these people who just can not seem to get over the hump on their issues:
1) Get a grip and get some anti-depressants.
2) Emo shit should be left in your Doc’s office.
3) Write it out already. These back and forth dredge jobs are getting older than the hills and twice as moldy. Finish that story line and move on.
Geesh, people, I may have anger management issues, but at least I knew when I needed to go to the shrinks. Stop complaining and either ignore it and actually move on, or finish it and get it out of your system. Written drama is a story. Taking it beyond its shelf life just leaves every thing sour like curdled milk left in the sun too long.
You sit there and complain there is “too much emo drama”. Take a look at where it starts and you might just see your self looking at you from the river's source.
Too often we are caught up in the feelings of those that are around us. They are caught up in the emotions of those who are still active, and who is spouting trash through the different media. The warriors follow orders. The warriors do what they can, when they can.
We can all look at a warrior and say "rise wiser and stronger" but no matter what side they resided on, they fought and they fell...
Too many refuse to fight. Too many have never raised a weapon to defend clan and Family. Too many have opinions never having done anything to defend them other than residing behind the warriors who have come before them...
Today...
Remember, it is not who you support that matters. It is that someone fell... so you could support it.
I was a soldier. I am considered a veteran. How the public treats our veterans now a days is sad.
When a soldier falls. It does nto matter if it is a caualty of war, or a non combat fatality. It should not matter who or what they fought for or why they went into the military in the first place.. It should not matter what time in the day or night they fought, or even how long they were in. It only matters that they fought. It only matters that they put their lives on the line by signing the bottom line.
Too often we are caught up in the feelings of those that are around us. They are caught up in the emotions of those who are still our friends and neighbors who only like the spotlight of the news and the different political circuses. The soldiers follow orders. The soldiers do what they can, when they can.
We can all look at a soldier and say "you did well" but no matter what made them fight... orders, oaths, neccessity, or survival...they fight and sometimes they fall...
Too many refuse to fight. Too many have never raised a weapon or their voices to defend their Family or their country. Yet, they have opinions never having done anything to defend them other than residing behind the soldiers who have come before them...
Today...
Remember, it is not who you support that matters. It is that someone fell... so you could support it. No matter what the politics are of the war.. remember.. you can support the men and women in the Armed Forces, without supporting the leadership that sent them there.
the average entertainment. There are now, first person shooting games,
interactive online comics, image banners to relay what a character looks like,
here in RB, and 3-D subscription games that allow visual interaction with
characters. However, there are those of us who still try to have some
originality and give our descriptions in story format.
Last night while my sister was moderating the chat rooms, people were
intentionally copying the descriptions of our characters and telling her, "since
it is now posted in public it can be mimicked" and "where can we find more of
your story so we know where to take it." Why can people no longer come up with
there own character? Now they have to copy anything that comes along?
The roleplays I am using in the "Dark Times" RP with some of the more
established players in the game, establishes my character background. They were
originally RP'd in 2005 and 2006. They are not new, they are not the "latest".
There is no reason for the 'burbs and ghettos to be bombarded with likenesses of
DE and RNR just because the new RPers have not seen them before. Develope your
own unique attributes. It is more fun for you and your readers as your
characters evolve into something more than they began.
If you as players see other people stealing material, pull them to the side and
call them on it. As long as it is an accepted practice, there can be no
evolution of their own story.
You know? Everyday there is someone in this game who says “They banned me for no reason.” If there was no reason, then you would not have gotten the attention to get banned in the first place. Your text would have scrolled up like the thousands of lines of inane drivel we read every day for hours on end.
We as mods put up with a lot off shit from the players. From the public outcries of whining and temper tantrums, to the occasion “Bitch” thrown with a HW or a scroll on the game grid, we still do our jobs. Some mods are more liked than others because they will over look the rules that are not popular.
Don't like the "bored" rule.. tough. Don't like the "no violence" rule.. tough.. Don't like the "no insults" rule.. tough...
They are still rules. You do not get to pick and choose which rules will be enforced and which ones won’t be just because you or your friends do not like them. That is why I have so few friends in the game. It makes it easier when I have to kick their butt out of the chat room for doing something they know they are not supposed to be doing.
It is also why I choose not to RP in the chat rooms. My own style of RP would get me banned under the current rules plus I write too much and get buffer kicked on a regular basis. You as players have a choice. When you walk into that chat room you are accepting the rules AS THEY ARE WRITTEN. If you do not like the rules don’t come in, make a private room, RP only in private message, or go to unmodded.
The saddest part about this… is that these are supposed to be adults. They act more like whining children who get their toys taken away because they refused to share. I can see the 14-16 year olds whining. They are at “that stage” but the adults? It is all bullshit and you know it. There is no such thing as “Banned for no reason” There is a reason, you just don’t like it…. TOUGH.
Do you think that long descriptive roleplays [500-1000 words] are the only way to claim bodies?
No, as long as they have posted in the place where the battle is being posted (RBA,RBB, RBBC) then it can be any length
Do you think it is appropriate for one player to say "I'll ignore other roleplays that show up before mine if my character got the kill shot on another one"?
No, if the person doing the pick up swoops in and takes the body out of the hands of the zeroer then the zeroer should back off.
Do you think that comments in papers [in regards to claiming bodies] qualify as some kind of roleplay?
No, I do not. Not every member is on every paper. I believe it only counts when it is the public forums (RBA,RBB, RBBC) as that is where most action happens in the game. Plus, one must be already posting on a thread to get emails in news forums, so the word will not get out quickly enough to interested parties.
Does your character getting the kill shot automatically mean that your character gets to do anything they want to the 'corpse' of another?
Yes, a zero is a zero. You are technically a fresh corpse as stated on the screen. As a corpse you have no consciousness to do anything. However, as an RPer, I find the dismemberment of the other characters to be abhorrent, as technically vampires are not zombies who can grow things back or reattach them, but things such as crucifixion, dragging a body behind a car, or playing kickball with it, would be acceptable practices in my opinion just tacky in my character's opinion.
Or do you as a player work with the player of the character that was zeroed to establish what is appropriate?
I wrote with Sartori (John?) when my character was zeroed. I asked and was granted the opportunity to do it. Why should we as players lose the opportunity to write with someone we have never met? This is a game, just because the characters are in a war, or they do not like each other, is not a reason to disrespect the writings of another.
Do you believe that your character or most others should just suck up whatever happens to them and grow past it?
That depends on the circumstances above. If the body is picked up before the RPer gets to write 'the pre-written novel'... too bad for the zeroer. If the body is desecrated before the body is picked up... too bad for the zeroed. Those should be sucked up. The RP is written. Bitching about for days afterward does not change the fact that the RP was written.
However, in closing, I do believe that we as players, must take the responsibility to acknowledge that there are, indeed, other players. Wishing to alienate other players just to get your character's rocks off, one time, is stupid. This game is enriched by collaborative writing, and ruined when one person wishes to be the entire star of the show.
This picture was taken by me at the entrance of Bru na Boinne, Before we went into New Grange in Ireland. I did not know what I had, until I downloaded it the next morning.
Since the ghettos and the ‘burbs were forged there has been a police force monitoring them. They rarely get thanked for the efforts of trying to keep the freaks from harassing the kids or keeping the damn flood control channel up. They never get thought of anything other than that “damn mod” who busts someone not following the rules. Each moderator was chosen for something that was seen in them that was thought could help better the side that actually obeyed the rules.
Now, the ghettos got spanked. Gamora got toasted due to the flagrant disregard of the lax rulings of the land. Suddenly, they are all thrown in with the masses of the law abiding and scuffles occurred.
Every change has its growing pains, but to take your own frustrations on the individuals who look out for everyone, is just showing your own lack of control and discipline that caused you to need such a place anyway.
If you do not like the rules which the police use to guard the main alleyways of the ‘burbs you have options.
1) Make a private room. The ‘burbs can grow and expand. It is as flexible in construction as the imagination
2) Don’t come in. Yeah, they hate that one, but no one is forcing anyone to use this city as their own personal soap box of ineptitude.
3) Read the rules and actually follow them. Wow, they are just not that hard, and are written at a very low grade level so everyone can understand them.
I really do hope that the ghettos do not come back. People need to take a time out occasionally to realize that their actions have consequences. If you are banished from the law abiding side, you should not be able to go over to a room full of toys. The city’s denizens should not be able to straddle a fence between the law and the lawless.
We have been threatened, assaulted, and ridiculed for simply doing a job. We deal with harassment, insults, and a whole lot of shit from the basic “Joe Vampire”. Yet we still come in when we can, and that same vampire could go over to the ghettos and joke with his friends about the baiting, and then get them to make thralls and come in to do the same thing. No, there is no reason for a place such as that. You pyres who were there by “choice” make a room on the ‘burb side and reside there. It is not a hard thing to do.
We who do uphold the laws of the land should not have to put up with being attacked for doing our jobs. The citizens of RBC can easily read the rules and realize why they were warned, kicked, or banned. There is also a cute little place called the FAQs. This place allows you to send your prayers up to the creator and his consort so they can smack you up side the head with sense and then light bulb can go on… ding.
The public out cries will not help you. Peer pressure will not help you. There is one law in this land and that is the law we uphold, and only RB and Miyu can tell us “Nay” not some law breaking citizens of the city. The lawless want their playground back? Only one person can bring it back. Attacking those of us on his police force does not get you anything. We are still going to be there, and we are still going to uphold the laws whether you like them or not.
Whiners… get my goat. Yeah, you know who you are… the ones who say “It’s not Faaaaaiiir” Whine Whine….
Something happens that is “Random”-
ran•dom
–adjective
1. proceeding, made, or occurring without definite aim, reason, or pattern: the random selection of numbers.
And all of a sudden you all turn into children:
“He got more than me”
“His piece is bigger than my piece.”
Did I get anything during the RANDOM occurrence that happened in the city… No, but I sure as hell was out there robbing the people who did. When someone gets something in this city… it is theirs only as long as they can hold it. That is why we pay so much to acquire Thievery…
Hello!!!!
Did you whiners stop to think about how much it can help the fledglings in your clan… or in your Family? Did you stop to think that it is only as good as they can keep it… and bask in the thrill of trying to take it away? Noooooo… of course not.
You only think about how they got something that you did not. That is what RANDOM means… not everyone gets something… but that does not mean that it was a waste… that is was not beneficial to everyone in some small way…
Oh and the whiners about blood really get me. Whiners who hit me or my clan and then go off and scurry to the mods that I am hitting them back... and taking their blood... PLEASE!! That is why we have weapons. They are not there to look like some trophy on your wall with a number on it, collecting dust like some beer bottle pyramid. If you do not want to play with your HW then apply that pink cloak so we can ignore you.
Thank you RB for TRYING to make the city interesting for all of us.
Now Whiners… quit your Bitching and become real pyres for a change… and work for what you want, and quit trying to play the “I deserve it because…” card. It doesn’t work really well. No one DESERVES anything, except a good swift dowsing of HW on occassion.
Work for it so you can achieve your goals, you are not OWED anything!!!
In previous rants I have talked about how "if you do not write it, then it did not happen." Writing can be done in private between two individuals, in a conference, in a chat room, in a blog, or on a forum board for the explanation of what I am referencing in terms of writing. However, when I read the OOC sections of these “papers” and I click into the OOC section, there are still a lot of people who complain about how others play their characters, as if it is any of the other person’s business, when they are not RPing with them. I have been playing this game for almost 3 years now. I have seen this same argument rehashed over and over again. Why?
Through observation I have learned there are 4 types of vampires that are played in this game: the modern movie vampire good or bad, such as the archetypes from Blade and Underworld, the literary types, from books based on Victorian principals from such stories as Stoker’s Dracula, those who follow the restrictions of the game Vampires: The Dark Alleyway (V:TDA), and the last type is the imaginative types, those who follow their own rules of myth, magick, and folklore or their own imagination.
The modern movie portrayers seem to stay in the chat rooms created by RB for live action Role Play. Whether it is because it is easier to write in short bursts, or because they can not find a welcoming home in the forums is unknown. Yet, they do seem to congregate there and find others who believe much as they do. It works for them, until they do try to venture into the Yahoo realm and get trounced by one of the more traditional types of vampire players.
The literary vampire players seem to be able to find a home anywhere because they do not “offend” anyone. They remain in the quiet confines of private boards, blogs, and occasionally raise their voices when they wish to say something and then fade back into the shadows much as the vampires that they portray. They exist within the chat rooms or the forums yet, they create no stirs among the supposed “elders”.
The ones, who restrict themselves to the “rules” of V:TDA, are well accepted. They only write about powers they have, actions they do on the game board, and spaces on a page that they buy with real world money. These players also seem to gather wide acceptance in this world that we, the players, have created. The text names can be SS’d, verified, and put into restrictive confined communities called clans. Most are free to spout their opinions whether they help or hinder the game play. They freely move in and out of the boards and forums unmolested by the “elders” and “ancients” of the game. Some, such as I, use the powers given in the game, in a small form of imaginative play, such as surprise + shadows = mist, or charisma + telepathy = glamour. These relatively harmless uses of imagination are also not too widely frowned upon by the general populace.
The players who really seem to be shunned, ridiculed, and driven into seclusion are those players which show more imagination. They possess magical items. They can complete actions without having the associated power assigned to their text name within the game board. They choose not to play by the above other archetypes because they want to be different, unique, in a world that is filled with little clone soldiers of those players who have come before them. They can become pregnant. They fraternize with other magical creatures. They run through the game with only their own sense of adventure and fun in their writing.
Now that I have explained my views on the types of vampires that play within this realm of V:TDA, my question is…. Why the Hell, does it matter to anyone how anyone else plays? The players have the option of RPing with the other players… or not. The chat rooms have ignore buttons. YIM has ignore buttons. Forums have rules governing how a player can post an RP. Players can choose whether they will read an RP from another player or not, and they also have a choice on whether they wish to respond to any player who has posted in an open RP.
Why are these tools not being utilized if some players find another person’s game play so offensive? I believe the answer is… because part of other people’s “fun” is to see how many players they can drive into the underground, or how many insults they can rack up before a person just leaves a game filled with closed minded… unimaginative people. These closed minded individuals seem to take pleasure in openly insulting the imaginative players and basking in the attention that one of these incidents causes when it is brought to light.
My opinion? Get over yourselves. Everyone is entitled to play as they want, when they want, and how they want. They are entitled to portray their characters any way they wish to. If someone wants to be seductive, then let them be. If someone plays “more human” than you wish… tough. If someone wants to use a magical item, let them. If someone is telling their own story, then stay the hell out of it if you do not like it. If someone wants to RP more than one character… so what? Use any of the above tools to help YOU remove the offensive from your sight, but quit harassing the players, just because it gives you your own jollies to attack the player and not the character that the player represents.
GET A GRIP PEOPLE!! This is a game, and it is a game that can be enjoyed by anyone, not just the “honored” few who have gained acceptance by those who think of themselves as the elite in their own preferred circle.
Okay… Now I have seen everything. In a recent article in PC World, I read where there is currently an inquiry into taxing RPG cash. WTF?
The way it is explained is this….
Since RPG cash can have a “Real World” (RW) value, such as 20 dollars for 100,000 coins and so forth, that the fair market value could be taxed. So, if we take our little world of RBDA, things would look like this…
1 building 300 dollars… (example, I do not know how much they really cost) Then you as the owner of said building could be taxed for the owner ship of the building every year for as long as you own it… for the percentage of its RW value.
You have 2 mill in the bank? You could be taxed for the percentage of the RW value of those coins.
You have a fully powered vampire? The RW worth of 127 dollars. You would be taxed every year as long as you play that vampire for the ownership of that “good or service”.
And even worse, if you sell the “good or service” as in sell a really well stocked vampire character on a site… then both could be taxed for the RW value that was exchanged between the two parties.
The article equated this taxation “idea” to “trying to tax monopoly money”. Give me a break. These are games. As a GAME we are supposed to play by increasing wealth, gather powers, and annihilate an opponent.
The government seems to want to even take that small bit of fantasy away from the consumer by listing this as taxable through “taxation of prizes through games.”
This is not Lotto… or a slot machine where you can take the winning ticket to a cashier and get your 2 million dollars and buy a condo. What gives?
Leave our games alone you government creeps. It is the only place we actually get away from you!!
I play 2 games regularly, RBDA and Urban Dead. I also play 2 other games not so regularly… Neopets and Abyss. My characters may not be worth much, but I do not want the government keeping me from succeeding in my game paly because I have to keep them below a “marketable value.”
This is something we should all be aware of. What is next? Do they want to try taxing us on our The Simpson’s Game of Life? Get a grip government people!! They are all GAMES with no real monetary value.
She had been lying in the shadows for a while. It was the only way she felt close to him. He had been gone so long this time, but she hoped that he would return someday. She heard a rustling in the darkness, thinking it was just another vampire passing through she thought nothing of the shadows that surrounded her. Then she heard it, a voice. I called to her through the shadows.
“DE?”
She came more awake as the voice insistently called her, “DE, where are you?”
She thought it was just another dream another one of her wishes that he was there. She hoarsely called to him in the darkness, “I am here asleep with you, until you return.”
As she coalesced into something more than the shadow she had become, she felt arms come around her from behind, “So how have you been?”
She sighed and snuggled into his arms, “I have been sleeping with you in the shadows. It is the only place I feel close to you.”
Rand sighed and kissed her cheek, “For that I am sorry. I have about an hour and a half that I can spend with you, now.”
She looked up at him, “Then I suppose we will have to make the most of it.” She snuggled into his chest.”
He smiled widely as she snuggled into him and he kissed her forehead as he gave her a loving squeeze, “Absolutely.”
She played with his buttons on his doublet, “I have missed you... so often I wondered if you had forgotten me, and then you are here...” She looked up at him, “I hope you know that you are the only one for me... you would not happen to have 10 grand on you would you?”
He tilted his head back and laughed, “Ahh, I see. Sweeten me up and then ask for money is it? Hmm, I don’t think so but I can check last I checked I’d spent most of my gold.”
She smacked his chest playfully, “Nooo silly... not for me... for us... to be bound.”
He chuckled and rolled his eyes in mock exasperation, “Oh, well, I suppose that’s a good enough reason to check the old bank funds.”
They had been sleeping only a few blocks from the bank. They both walked there hand in hand and checked their balances.
DE made few calls while he was checking his balance. She called RNR and her Sire, asking both to meet them at the hall of Binding. She tried calling Ravyne, but there was no answer on her cell phone.
Once they had all arrived, she spoke to RNR and her Father, “I know rand and I promised we would not elope but... he is in the city so rarely we need to take advantage of it.”
Her Father spoke quietly and looked at them both, “Ok.”
She looked up to rand, “Are you ready?”
Rand smiled, “Always, love.”
She smiled at him as they stood in front of the Guild Master, “Then… again… I take you as my husband, to be with you through the night and guard your back as you sleep. I am yours eternally, and this time... you can not escape me.” She handed the GM her coins.
The GM nodded, “Your half of the binding ritual is complete. Your prospective partner must now pay their half of the fee.”
Rand grinned and put his hands around DE’s waist, “And once more I pledge to you my heart and soul, giving you all the love that I possess. And this time no force can take me away.” He handed his coins to the GM.
The GM nodded and smiled, “The binding ritual is complete. You and deaths embrace are connected as partners.”
DE wrapped her arms around rand’s neck and kissed him, “Now you have gone and done it... you are stuck.”
Rand smiled and chuckled kissing DE back, “Somehow I don’t think I’m the one that’s 'stuck'. ”
RNR let out a “Woot.”
Her Father nodded, “Congratulations.”, as he hugged her.
DE smiled and embraced her Father back, “Thank you, Father.”
Deth had been listening to their exchange, “A Deth is always in darkness waiting.”
RNR laughed, “Now that’s an understatement.”
DE turned back to rand and laughed, “Oh... you are stuck alright... No shades and out clauses for you. “
Her Father nodded, “Keep true to the name "Deth" I expect no less....”
DE smiled at her Father, “In staying true to rand... through all the silences... through all we have endured to get here... I do not think I could be any other way.”
Rand bowed to Deth and to RnR, “Thanks to you both for coming and, Deth, I promise you no one thinks more of your daughter than I, and I will never do anything to disappoint her or you.”
Deth nodded, “Understood.. It seems the Deths are classic... silence'ers.... spouses are still.... always... but no matter... we are quiet anyway.”
DE turned to her Father, “Through the silences all love endures... Deths are as we have always been... and we choose our partners carefully and with great esteem... no matter the costs we endure on their behalf
Deth looked at his Daughter, “Ndeed.”
RNR got a glint in her eyes that was all too familiar to her sister, “Ohh, sis, we can stick the new spouse. I have these great close swords longer then daggers shorter than swords.”
Rand raised a brow and looked at RnR, “Stick the spouse? Wow. That’s a setup but I don’t feel right making the joke with Deth here.”
RNR laughed.
DE raised a brow to RNR, “No no no... He can not be run through tonight... you have to wait until the one year anniversary.”
RNR thought about that, “Ohh ok.”
Rand rolled his eyes and sighed, “Oh gods. What have I gotten into now?”
DE looked to rand and squeezed his hand, “We will make one year this time... one year.. two years... until the city burns this time.”
Rand smiled and kissed DE's cheek, “Love, this time we'll be bound for all time. Nothing will separate us.”

For two years, Stephanie and I have been playing this game, and still there are people that see us as the same person. Why is it so hard to believe that two sisters can share the same two bedroom apartment? Why can people not see that our writing styles, our mannerisms, and even the way we converse in a RP, is completely different?
WE have MANY differences. I do end up proof reading Steph’s stuff, because she is the queen of the run-on sentence and an expert of making one paragraph into a whole page. She is the gregarious people person, and I am the quiet… hard to get to know one. She is the one who will say something just to get people to react and I am the one who will rarely say anything for a reaction. She is the Mod for the game, and I am just a player.
I have written rant posts, in the past, about the failure of many to see us as different people. I have always felt that I have lived within her shadow because she has so many friends, and I remained with the same group of friends that I have had for the past year.
I started out by keeping my characters as lurkers in this game, whereas, she went into it all gung ho, and became a Mod in a short time because she likes to talk to people. Even when she underwent her cancer surgeries you could not keep her from talking and she had stitches in her mouth.
I entered my character into the SC because she was telling me how much fun it was to write stories. I did not believe her, yet I went in anyway and gave it a shot. I learned that I could write. Kudos for me. However, it created conflicts starting the day that it was discovered that we were on the same ID.
Since that day, both of us have had to prove ourselves as different… over and over again. We have spoken to people on the phone, and only then does the light bulb go on. Is that a rumor that gets spread around? No. Instead, the only rumor that gets spread around is that we are on the same ID therefore we must be the same person. I love to burst you collective bubble. WE ARE TWO PEOPLE!
For the current circumstances that are going on in the game. I have had to refrain from biting and robbing vampires. I only go for the humans unless they are near one of the banks that DE’s alts inhabit. Good Luck finding Steph’s. Why? Because the game is set up that way. Those cloning rules apply to people on the same ID whether they are known to be separate or not.
To those people who have realized that she and I are different… Thank You. You have given me a lot of friendship, caring and good times in this game.
For those of you who still fail to see that we are two separate people… Get over it. The blast says it all.
“All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them.”
All you have to do is ask… and quit jumping to assumptions that can easily be proven false with the simple asking of a question.
I am sure there will be times when I can not do anything, and times when she can not do anything. That is because we have learned through penalties what limits there are to two people being in the same game that has as many security features as this one. We have developed ways to not cross those lines, and if we do it on accident we take the punishment and move on.
All I am asking you to do, is to finally realize that Stephanie and I are not one person. She and I just play this game to have fun… and we happen to do it together. We use the same router, on different computers, at the same time. Our characters have different vampire lives that we write and sometimes those lives actually manage to cross paths.
OOC: Long ago, a friend told me "You have to fight for what you want, to attain your goals" I guess those were true words, but what do you do once those goals are acheived. Do you create new ones? Or persist in the notion that once all your goals are achieved you should be satisfied, and live out the rest of your days, knowing that you did what you set out to do?
I watch friends list in a tide of uncertainty and am saddened that I can not use the knowledge I have gained through painful experiences to help those around me. I see friends, consistantly, making the same mistakes over and over again, because they do not learn the first time that the stove will burn. I became a priestess because I was drawn to the suffering of others and wanted to help. Sadly, this does not help those who need it most. Those who travel on troubled seas unable to get their bearrings.
Although I watch from afar, I still watch. I feel what others feel, so deeply sometimes, that the waves of emotion inundate me to the point of drowning. I am told I care too much. My caring thrown in my face so many times, that I am surprised that I can still care at all, but I do. Much to my own detriment.
My gift from the goddess is the ability to sympathize and empathize, because at the age of 35 I can honestyly say, "Been there and done that." There have been so many experiences. I empathize with so many, but ask so little, but I am getting to the point where I have no reserves left. Now, I am having to protect myself yet again. I feel myself pulling away from those who care about me. Not through any fault o theirs, but as a protection mechanism, to protect myself. Currently, I risk losing so many things that matter to me, that I am unsure where I should look, where I should hide, what I should fight, or where I can find safe refuge from the storm. *sighs*
Within this make believe world of the game, there are so many faces, so many masks, it hard to know which mask is the real face of an individual and which is the face of the vampire, the game. Alot of people forget this is a game, real emotions get involved, real feelings get hurt, real friends get made and lost again through the actions of characters prancing around on a black, blue, and green sea, but ask yourself this: Is any of it real, or is it all an illusion we choose to see just to escape the realities that face us day after day?
Another friend once asked me "How do you know when your world is falling apart?" I guess the answer is "When you look in the mirror and don't see who you think you are because you hid behind the mask of other peoples ideas of what you are, and yet, you forgot to live for yourself." So I tell all my friends out there "Figure out what you want for yourselves. Find YOUR goals. Chase YOUR dreams. Do not allow someone else to limit what you are capable of. Do not allow yourself to be put into an enclosed box of regrets. Do not allow someone else to define your own self worth. Do not allow others to determine what you can and can't do within the game and outside of it, for who do you hurt when you allow these things to overwelm you? YOURSELF"
